Former Alabama Democratic State Senator Doug Ghee has been accused of sexually assaulting a handcuffed and shackled female inmate at the Calhoun County Jail.
"I take this very seriously and the investigation is ongoing with the sheriff's office and the Alabama Attorney General's Office," Wade said, per 1819 News. "Several complaints have also been made to the Alabama Bar Association seeking disciplinary action."
The civil lawsuit alleges that Ghee, 78, who was visiting the jail as a well-known attorney, interacted with the 29-year-old inmate in an attorney-client meeting room while she was handcuffed and shackled. The inmate was facing charges including obstruction of justice, promoting prison contraband, possession of a controlled substance, and theft of property.
The inmate claims Ghee offered to secure a favorable plea deal for her in exchange for $2,500 and her agreement to become his “sex slave,” suggesting he could influence local judges. During a second visit, she alleged that Ghee kissed her and assaulted her by touching her throat and breast. The complaint also mentioned that a corrections officer intervened during the interaction.
“Defendant Ghee’s egregious sexual harassment and other conduct in this case was extreme and outrageous,” the lawsuit said. “[Plaintiff] was already in a fragile state as she was facing a 15-year prison sentence.”
“Defendant Ghee raised [Plaintiff’s] hopes of getting a lower sentence but only at the demand for money and to become a sex slave upon release,” it continues. “Then upon his second visit, he committed sexual assault, battery, and false imprisonment on her while she was chained and shackled.”
The inmate is seeking compensatory and punitive damages, as well as attorney fees and court costs. Ghee faces allegations of battery, extortion, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligence, false imprisonment, and wantonness, per 1819 News.
