In her address, Mrs. Trump characterized the effort as an innovation challenge for the younger generation of Americans. She explained that students will be required to create projects that show how AI could be used to resolve local issues, such as enhancing school resources or addressing environmental concerns.

"As someone who created an AI-powered audiobook and championed online safety through the Take It Down Act, I've seen firsthand the promise of this powerful technology. Now, I pass the torch of innovation to you."
The goal of the initiative is to maintain "America's global dominance in this technological revolution for future generations," according to the White House website, which further states, "Early training in the responsible use of AI tools will demystify this technology and prepare America's students to be confident participants in the AI-assisted workforce, propelling our Nation to new heights of scientific innovation and economic achievement."
Registration for the challenge opened on Tuesday. Each team is required to have an adult mentor or teacher, and all assignments are due by January 20, 2026.
The state champions will be announced in early 2026, and the winners will advance to five regional competitions. Finalists will be invited to Washington, DC, for a three-day exhibition at the White House in June 2026. Additionally, national champions will receive a $10,000 reward, either for their school or per team member.
Donald Trump is the first president in American history to have an AI Czar in a White House administration following the appointment of San Francisco tech mogul David Sacks.
Michael Kratsios, director of the White House Office of Science and Technology, said the competition is aimed at helping students collaborate on real-world solutions. "We want to have America's youth plugged in and working on using AI tools," he told Fox and Friends on Tuesday.
