First Lady Melania Trump hosted an artificial intelligence (AI) meeting with top industry leaders at the White House on Thursday, discussing the importance of managing AI's growth "responsibly" and with "watchful guidance."

Those in attendance included members of the White House Task Force on Artificial Intelligence Education and private sector industry leaders who have pledged to support AI education in the US, including Google CEO Sundar Pichai. The meeting took place in the East Room of the White House, Fox News reported.

"I predict AI will represent the single largest growth category in our nation during the Trump administration, and I won't be surprised if AI becomes known as the greatest engine of progress in the history of the United States of America," the first lady said, sitting at a table next to White House chief of staff Susie Wiles.

Furthermore, the first lady warned that "as leaders and parents, we must manage AI's growth responsibly."

"During this primitive stage, it is our duty to treat AI as we would our own children - empowering, but with watchful guidance," the first lady said. "We are living in a moment of wonder, and it is our responsibility to prepare children in America. Cars now steer themselves through our cities, robots hold steady hands in the operating room, and drones are defining the future of war."

Also in attendance were Code.org President Cameron Wilson and the CEO and Chairman of IBM, Arvind Krishna.

Later in the evening, President Donald Trump is scheduled to host a dinner for nearly two-dozen Big Tech leaders, including Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Apple CEO Tim Cook, OpenAI founder Sam Altman, and Microsoft founder Bill Gates. The dinner will occur in the White House Rose Garden.

First Lady Melania Trump, who has been a champion for you with her "Be Best" campaign, announced last month the launch of a nationwide Presidential Artificial Intelligence challenge for students across the nation.

Students will be required to create projects that show how AI could be used to resolve local issues, such as enhancing school resources or addressing environmental concerns. Those who wish to participate can register here.
