A career criminal with an extensive history of violent crimes is the suspect in the brutal murder of an elderly man after being released early from a Florida prison.

Justin Giambanco, 31, who has been described by Palm Bay Police Chief Mario Augello as "pure evil", allegedly killed a 69-year-old male immediately after serving only 18 months of a 53 month prison sentence, according to Palm Bay police.

"This 31-year-old suspect is pure evil," Augello said at a news conference, according to New York Post. "We are seeing far too many violent repeat offenders being released way too early for either shortened sentences, or because of minimal bottom outs."

The Palm Bay Police Chief blamed the "failing" criminal justice system for resulting in the death of the innocent man.

“The suspect in this case is just another example of how our current criminal justice system is failing to keep our community safe,” he added.

According to New York Post, Giambanco was serving jail time for a series of violent burglaries when police connected him to the murder.

The violent career felon's rap sheet includes 22 felonies and 24 misdemeanors, police say.

After serving two years behind bars for prior convictions, Giambanco was sentenced to 53 months in prison in April 2021 for repeatedly violating terms of his release. However, Giambanco was released early from jail in October 2022, after serving only 18 months.

Palm Bay Police Chief Aguello said he was arrested again on April 15 for trespassing and battering a police officer, only to be released the following day on bond where he allegedly went on to murder the elderly man.

"Since his most recent release, this individual has been a suspect of several burglaries within our county and his most heinous act yet, the brutal murder of a 69-year-old Palm Bay resident just a few short days ago," Aguello said.

According to New York Post, Giambanco has been charged with "second-degree murder with a firearm, false imprisonment, grand theft with a firearm and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon."
