A former Houston city official ignited national outrage after posting a racially charged rant targeting a historic Texas girls camp, hours after deadly flash floods swept through grounds, killing at least five campers and leaving 11 others missing.

Sade Perkins, a former appointee to Houston’s Food Insecurity Board under then-Mayor Sylvester Turner, claimed on TikTok that Camp Mystic, a Christian summer camp for girls located in Hunt, Texas, was a “white-only” space, per the New York Post.

“I know I’m going to get cancelled for this, but Camp Mystic is a white-only girls’ Christian camp,” Perkins said in a now-viral video. “They don’t even have a token Asian. They don’t have a token Black person. It’s an all-white, white-only conservative Christian camp.”

Perkins then mimicked the camp’s supposed attitude: “If you ain’t white, you ain’t right, you ain’t gettin’ in, you ain’t goin.’ Period.”

In another post, Perkins said "Maybe it was gods will to wash them lil cu#t$ away."

The remarks came as Texas grappled with catastrophic flooding that killed over 100 people across the state, including 27 campers and counselors from Camp Mystic. Many people across the state are still missing.

Perkins, whose board term expired in January, doubled down on her criticism in a follow-up video, claiming the missing campers were receiving disproportionate media attention due to their race.

“If this were a group of Hispanic girls out there, this would not be getting this type of coverage,” she said. “No one would give a f*ck… the parents of these little girls would be saying things like ‘they need to be deported.’”

In another clip, Perkins continued: “White people are not used to people calling them out on their racism… There’s children in ICE detention right now who y’all don’t give two f–ks about. There’s no prayers going up for them, but we’re supposed to stop the world to hunt for these little missing white girls.”

She ended the rant by saying she still hoped the girls would be found — a statement many critics labeled as disingenuous.

Current Houston Mayor John Whitmire quickly condemned the former appointee’s statements as “deeply inappropriate,” adding that her views “have no place in a decent society” and confirming he would not consider her for future appointments.
