On Thursday, three alleged gangsters were charged with murder in the accidental shooting death of 23-month-old Jasper Wu. Wu was killed in November 2021 when a stray bullet fired during a "rolling gun battle" between the suspects on Interstate 880 in Oakland, California went into the car in which the child was riding and struck him in the head.

The bullet pierced the windshield of the vehicle Wu was traveling in, and hit him in the head as he sat in his carseat. He was taken to hospital, but died as a result of his injuries, according to the New York Post.

According to Alameda County District Attorney Nancy O'Malley, Trevor Green, Ivory Bivins, and Johnny Jackson were each charged with shooting at an occupied vehicle and possession of a firearm, alongside the aforementioned murder charge.

A fourt man, Keison Lee, was also present, but was killed in a drive-by shooting just weeks before he could be charged.

The incident in question took place in broad daylight on November 6, 2021. As the ACDA's office reports, Green and Bivins were driving down I880, with Jackson and Lee in a separate vehicle next to them.

During the ensuing gunfight, a shot fired from Green and Bivins' vehicle missed Jackson and Lee, sailing into oncoming traffic.

Green and Bivins were arrested on warrants for a separate incident Costa County in March 2022, and will be transfered to Alameda County. Jackson was detained Wednesday.

"This horrific tragedy is a parent's worst nightmare: An innocent child struck by gunfire while riding in the car,” said DA O'Malley, adding that her office will "work tirelessly to bring these culprits to justice for the Wu family and for our community."

California Highway Patrol Golden Gate Division Chief Ezery Beauchamp echoed those sentiments, stating that the "depraved indifference shown by these suspects shocks us all and cannot be tolerated."

"The Wu family has suffered an unspeakable loss, and our hearts ache for them," he said. "Bringing these suspects to answer for their crimes is the result of an incredible team effort, and we are grateful for our allied agency partners that worked with us throughout the investigation."
