A recent poll has found that Gen Z men who voted for Donald Trump are likely to say that having children is the most important thing for their success while Gen Z women who voted for former Vice President Kamala Harris ranked having kids second from the bottom in a list of factors that contribute to their success while earning money and their career is at the top.

There is a divide growing in politics among Gen Z voters in particular, where more young men are voting in line with the GOP as Gen Z women have been voting for Democrats. However, politics is not the only thing that is dividing the sexes in the Gen Z generation. The poll, from NBC News, also shows how beliefs surrounding marriage and family are also diverging.

In the poll, those taking the survey were asked to rank order three of 13 different factors that contribute to their personal definition of success. The list of factors included:
  • Having a job or career you find fulfilling
  • Having enough money to do the things you want to do
  • Having emotional stability
  • Using your talents and resources to help others
  • Achieving financial independence
  • Having no debt
  • Owning your own home
  • Making your family or community proud
  • Being spiritually grounded
  • Being able to retire early
  • Being married
  • Having children
  • Fame and influence
Those men in Gen Z who voted for Trump on average placed having children at the top of their list of things that would bring them success. Being married for male Gen Z voters who voted for Trump was fourth on the list behind financial independence and having a fulfilling career.

For Gen Z women who voted for Harris, however, marriage and having kids were in the bottom three factors on the list that they said would help with their personal success. Children were second to last and getting married was third to last. Fame and influence were in the last position for both men and women who voted both for Trump and for Harris.

Gen Z females who voted for Trump ranked having children as their sixth priority for success and marriage in ninth place. Male Gen Z voters for Harris placed being married in ninth place, followed by having children in tenth.
