GOP Rep Mike Collins revealed on Sunday that one of his staffers and a friend were robbed in Washington, DC’s Navy Yard Neighborhood earlier that morning, with one of the robbers making off with a watch, while another other "took a fist to the face."

"Early this morning, three men attempted to rob one of my staffers and a friend at gunpoint in Navy Yard," Collins wrote. "One attacker took a watch, the other took a fist to the face. Our nation’s capital has become a warzone because of pro-criminal policies peddled by DC’s government. Thank the good Lord, after fending off the assailants, both young men are safe."

DC’s Metropolitan Police Department confirmed the incident to the Daily Caller, saying that the robbery occurred at around 1:58 am. Officers responded for a "report of a robbery," adding that multiple suspects were present, including one who had a gun. The suspects fled the area by vehicle, and police posted an image of the car to social media asking for those with information to come forward.

"It’s a shame our nation’s capital is a showcase for failed Democrat policies and violent crime as opposed to the greatness of our country. The crime is so common place now many people don’t even report it because they know the city government will do nothing or just release the criminals to keep offending," the attacked staffer told the outlet.

Robbery in DC increased by 67 percent in 2023 compared to 2022, according to police data. Year-to-date in 2024, robbery incidents are currently down 29 percent compared to 2023 across the district.
