On Thursday, Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced that she would be deploying the Arkansas National Guard to southern Texas to help tackle Biden's border crisis.

The crew of around eighty will be shuttled down in July to join the hundreds of Texas National Guardsmen already on the scene.

"President Biden's failure at our southern border puts the entire country at risk," Sanders said in a statement. "States must now step up where the President has failed to repel illegals, fight the cartels, and stop human and drug trafficking."

She noted that "Arkansans have always been quick to step up when others are in need," and that, "this time is no different."

The man in charge of the Arkansas National Guard, Maj. Gen. Jonathan Stubbs said his crew was "uniquely qualified" for the job, pointing out that the state's soldiers and airmen "have been providing these same capabilities to combatant commanders and local law enforcement agencies for years."

Arkansas is just the latest Republican-led state to offer assistance to those on the southern border, joining Florida, Iowa, Mississippi, Virginia, West Virginia, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Nebraska.

The crisis has gotten progressively worse in recent months, and following a surge in crossings brought on by the expiration of Title 42 in early May, the situation became so unmanageable that the Biden administration announced that it would be deploying 1,500 troops to the US-Mexico border.

The strongest response, however, has come from Texas, where in 2021 Abbott launched Operation Lone Star. Under the program, 373,000 illegal migrants have been apprehended, 28,000 criminals have been arrested, and 400 million lethal doses of fentanyl have been seized, alongside countless other drugs.

In May, Abbott added another layer of defense, deploying members of the newly-minted Texas Tactical Border Force. Texas Border Czar Mike Banks said the state was just "doing the job that President Biden and the federal government is refusing to do."
