Nationally, the average rate of gun ownership stands at around 31 percent.
The survey revealed that 33 percent of Republican women reported owning a firearm in 2019-2024, a significant increase from 22 percent in 2013-2018 and 19 percent in 2007-2012. In contrast, Democratic men have shown a steady decline in gun ownership, dropping from 36 percent in 2007-2012 to 29 percent in the most recent period.
Republican men remain the demographic with the highest rate of gun ownership, with 60 percent reporting they own a firearm in 2024, up from 57 percent in 2007-2012. Meanwhile, only 12 percent of Democratic women reported owning a gun.
“I think it’s phenomenal and speaks to the confidence and courage of women who are moved to protect themselves and their families in the face of the increasing lawlessness and disorder,” said former NRA spokeswoman Dana Loesch, according to the New York Post.
The poll also highlighted stark regional disparities in gun ownership. Between 2019-2024, 51 percent of those who self-identify as rural said they own a firearm, compared to only 20 percent of urban residents. Southerners were more than twice as likely to own guns compared to Eastern residents, at 40 percent versus 19 percent.
Nationally, the average rate of gun ownership stands at around 31 percent, reflecting a 2 percent increase from 2013-2018.
