Harris super PAC founder says inner polling worse for Kamala than public numbers

"Our numbers are much less rosy than what you're seeing in the public," said McLean.

On Monday, the founder of a Kamala Harris super PAC said that the many public polls showing the vice president as more favorable than former President Donald Trump are not as accurate as its inner polling. Chauncey McLean, president of Future Forward, a super political action committee, warned that VP Harris must win key battleground states to defeat Trump, which he described as toss-ups between both candidates based on current polling data.

"Our numbers are much less rosy than what you're seeing in the public," said McLean while speaking at an event hosted by the University of Chicago Institute of Politics, Reuters reports.

Future Forward, which has raised hundreds of millions of dollars for Harris's presidential campaign, created a massive internal polling operation to gain proper knowledge of how Harris stacks up against Trump. This has included testing 500 digital and TV ads for Biden, 200 for Harris, and polling at least 375,000 Americans since July 22.

While some polling shows Harris climbing above Trump, and reportedly "reshaping" a race that Trump was favored to win before President Biden's exit, McLean said that while he believes Harris has "multiple paths" to victory, the race is still "as tight as ever."

He explained that seven states in play could decide the race for either candidate, including Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin. McLean said Pennsylvania, the most consequential state to win, could be decided on a "coin-flip," according to data. He believes that a path to victory for Harris would be winning one of three states: Georgia, Pennsylvania, or North Carolina.

McLean warned that Harris needs to start focusing on public policy after polls revealed that the Americans want Harris to discuss these critical matters, citing it as one of their top concerns heading into the election. He asserted that voters require more tangible examples of how she may differ from Biden. In recent days, Trump allies have called on Harris to do the same, so they can properly address her controversial past and future policy decisions. McLean said that their polls show the race is anyone's game. "We have it tight as a tick, and pretty much across the board," he said.
