Here's when Election Day polls close across America

The first polling stations will close at 6 pm Eastern, while the final polls in the westernmost states of Alaska and Hawaii will close early Wednesday morning.

Election Day is underway across the US, with millions of Americans heading to their local polling stations to cast their ballots. The first polling stations will close at 6 pm est, while the final polls in the western most states of Alaska and Hawaii will close early Wednesday morning est. 

The first battleground state to close polls is Georgia, at 7 pm, followed by North Carolina at 7:30 pm, Pennsylvania at 8 pm, Arizona and Wisconsin at 9 pm, and Nevada at 10 pm. Some polls begin closing in Michigan at 8 pm, with additional polls closing at 8:30 and the remainder closing at 9, per the New York Times. Cambria County in PA has been permitted to keep their polls open until 10 pm after ealier machine issues.

The first polls to close are some in Indiana and Kentucky at 6 pm, with the remainder of polls in these states closing at 7 pm. Also closing at 7 pm are polls in Vermont, Virginia, South Carolina, Georgia, and parts of New Hampshire and Florida. 

Additional polling stations in New Hampshire and Florida close at 7:30 pm, with North Carolina, West Virginia, and Ohio closing all of their polling stations then as well.

The rest of New Hampshire and Florida’s polls close at 8 pm. Also closing at 8 pm are polling stations in Alabama, Connecticut, Delaware, Washington DC, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Missouri, New Jersey, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Tennessee. Some polling stations in Kansas, Michigan, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Texas close at 8 pm as well.

Arkansas’ polls close at 8:30 pm, with additional polling stations in Kansas, Michigan, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Texas closing then as well.

At 9 pm, the remainder of polling stations in Kansas, Michigan, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Texas close. All polling stations in Arizona, Colorado, Iowa, Louisiana, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Mexico, New York, Wisconsin, and Wyoming close at 9 pm. 

At 10 pm, some polling stations in Idaho and Oregon close, and all polling stations in Montana, Utah, and Nevada close. The Pennsylvania county of Cambria has extended its voting until 10 pm due to machine failures earlier in the morning. 

The rest of Idaho and Oregon’s polling stations close at 11 pm, and all polls in Washington and California close at 11 pm. At midnight, all polls in Hawaii close and polls in Alaska begin to close. The remainder of Alaskan polls close at 1 am Wednesday.
