Congressional Democrats are considering voting for a Republican if the candidate meets certain requirements as the House GOP enter another day of voting for Speaker. After seven rounds of voting Representative Kevin McCarthy of California has not garnered enough support to get elected.
Democratic Representative from California, Ro Khanna speaking to Neil Cavuto of Fox News, said on Wednesday, "I would consider the right Republican, someone I could trust. Brian Fitzpatrick, Mike Gallagher, who actually spoke eloquently on the floor. David Joyce."
On Twitter, Charlie Kirk wrote, "If DC Republicans allow this standoff to end with a Democrat Speaker or a "Coalition Choice" they will lose 100 seats in 2024."
The Post Millennial's Libby Emmons replied, "would be unforgivable."
"But there needs to be two conditions. One, you can’t have a debt ceiling debate or shut down as something that takes the country hostage, and two, [there has] to be some agreement on subpoena power. I’m open to a Republican who could work to put the interests of the American people first," Khanna added.
"No Democrat should have a say in subpoena power in a GOP Congress. That’s a BRIGHT red line," Jack Posobiec said.
Breitbart reports that two of the GOP that Khanna named, "Joyce (R-OH) and Fitzpatrick (R-PA) are members of the GOP’s business-backed, pro-amnesty wing, despite GOP voters’ deep opposition to labor migration."
Those two congressmen supported legislation in 2021 that would enable farming companies to use migrant labor who would receive citizenship for their work.
In his interview with Cavuto, Khanna said that he would not support McCarthy.
Kevin McCarthy has failed on several votes to attain the threshold needed to become Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Republicans hold 222 members in Congress, and McCarthy needed 218 votes to become the House Speaker. McCarthy and his surrogates have been working behind the scenes to secure a deal within the House GOP to garner those votes There are 20 hold-outs in the Freedom Caucus who have declined to support McCarthy.
Hakeem Jeffries of New York has also been nominated for House Speaker and has gained all Democratic votes each round.
