The Huffington Post was ruthlessly mocked over an article that they published, in which writer Monica Torres claimed that there is discomfort for many Americans while watching the Olympics and seeing the flag draped over gold medalists as others shout chants of "USA!"

The article, posted on X, has racked over 9 million views as of Monday morning. There are over 25,000 comments and just 1,400 likes, appearing to be one of the worst ratios on X. Torres claimed in the piece that there has been "whiplash" for Americans as they see "President Donald Trump’s deportation agenda separates families, and federal agents detain 5-year-olds and kill unarmed civilians," but also witness American athletes win medals at the Olympics.

The reference to killing "unarmed civilians" likely refers to Renee Good and Alex Pretti, but simplifies the context. Good was running her car into an ICE agent when she was shot. Pretti had been armed in the moments leading up to the shooting while confronting federal agents, but appeared to have been disarmed a fraction of a second prior to the shooting.

The HuffPost article then cites the feelings of Olympian Hunter Hess, who trashed the US leading up to the games and said he had "mixed emotions" about representing America on the world stage.

Others shared American imagery from the Olympics in response, also getting more approval than the article from the left-wing outlet. Jeniffer Sey, the founder of XX-XY Athletics, posted, "Shut up," in response, and shared images of American gold medalists Jack Hughes and Alysa Liu draped in the American flag.

One user posted another image of Liu with the American flag and said, "If this offends you I'll help you pack."

Others in the comments also pointed to a portion of Torres' writer bio, where it says she was a "2016 member of Poynter's Diversity in Digital Leadership class."

"Written by Monica Torres, some kind of longstanding DEI scammer," one user said.

Over the weekend, both the men's and women's hockey teams for the USA bested Canada for the gold medal. Pictures from the games have been going viral online, with one of the most widespread photos being of Hughes, who had his teeth cracked open with a hockey stick, grinning and holding his fist in the air after scoring the game-winning goal for America.
