Illinois police shoot knife-wielding man who allegedly stabbed multiple Toyota dealership employees

Illinois police shot a knife-wielding suspect on Wednesday who allegedly went on a stabbing rampage at a Toyota car dealership in Dekalb County, slicing up several employees before authorities thwarted the attack. Police said the male suspect refused to drop his weapon, resulting in officers opening fire, as reported by Shaw Local News.

The incident occurred around 1 pm at the Brian Bemis Toyota car dealership on 1890 Sycamore Road. The suspect, who was reportedly armed with multiple knives, was not an employee or customer of the dealership. He entered the business and allegedly unleashed a stabbing attack, forcing his knife into the bodies of several employees, police said.



Officers responded to multiple 911 calls and located a male suspect with a knife at the scene. The suspect was ordered to drop his weapon but refused, police said.

According to a police release, when order to drop the knife, the suspect “refused to drop the knife and instead advanced.” Officers responded by shooting the suspect, who was then transported to the hospital. The condition of the suspect is stable, and he is expected to live, according to the Daily Mail.

Authorities said several employees at the business sustained non-life-threatening stab wounds and were treated by paramedics at the scene.

"DeKalb police responded to a call where a person was wielding a knife and stabbing employees," City Manager Bill Nicklas said. "Police responded and commanded the alleged assailant to cease. He did not comply, and the incident ended in a police-involved shooting."

The case has been transferred to the Illinois State Police for further investigation. DeKalb County State's Attorney Rick Amato's office will also review the investigation. "Our office is working with the Illinois state police on two shooting incidents, unrelated, from today, one from the early morning hours and then one from this afternoon," Amato told reporters.

City Manager Nicklas added: "We're obviously concerned for the welfare of the employees of Brian Bemis Toyota. And we will be following up on them as well. Our hearts go out to them and their families." Police believe the mass stabbing attack was an isolated incident.
