Iran is targeting a group of former aides to Donald Trump as the election nears closer. According to a new report, there are more than half a dozen aides that are being targeted by Iran for their involvement in the Trump administration and links to the killing of Qassem Soleimani.

"We’ve never had former senior national security officials, a Cabinet member, that have had this risk profile from a foreign adversary," a former senior Trump administration official told Politico. Iran has been openly threatening Trump as well as those who were involved in the drone strike killing of Soleimani, the country's most powerful military general at the time.

Those on the list of potential targets from Iran that were high up in the Trump administration include Mark Esper, Defense Secretary; Kenneth McKenzie, head of the US Central Command; Mark Milley, Chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; Mike Pompeo, Secretary of State; Paul Nakasone, the head of US Cyber Command and NSA; and Brian Hook, the State Department’s Special Representative over Iran. Each receives a 24/7 security detail, sometimes these security teams include around half a dozen security personnel.

The outlet reported that Tehran has put out videos that depict the deaths of Trump as well as others who helped to organize the strike on the Iranian terrorist leader. The Trump campaign was briefed last month on the threat of Iran and earlier this week it was reported that the Trump camp is requesting more military-grade equipment for protection in light of the threats.

“This is extraordinarily serious," said Matt Olsen, the DOJ assistant attorney general over national security. "Iran has made it very clear that they are determined to seek retaliation against former officials in connection with the Soleimani strike."

Around 20 people who have direct knowledge spoke to the outlet about the threats posed by Iran against Trump as well as the former aides. This comes after the former president has been subject to two assassination attempts on his life, one in Butler, Pennsylvania, and another while he was golfing at his course in West Palm Beach. The GOP nominee has sworn off golfing until the end of the election after federal authorities have said that they cannot protect him on the course.
