“You’re on the other side of the president for one week, and you can’t take the heat?”
Speaking with CNN’s Jake Tapper, Crockett said Greene’s announcement came only days after breaking with President Donald Trump. “You’re on the other side of the president for one week, and you can’t take the heat?” she said, noting that Greene had long encouraged hostility toward her own political opponents. Crockett added, “Imagine what it is to sit in my shoes… to have people like her who are constantly fanning the flames of hate.”
Greene, once one of Trump’s strongest allies on Capitol Hill, has recently clashed with him and members of her own party over the Epstein files, health care fights, and the government shutdown. She claimed she had received threats after Trump labeled her “a traitor.”
But Crockett noted that Greene is far from the only Republican to face Trump’s anger. She pointed out that Reps. Thomas Massie and Lauren Boebert also backed releasing the files tied to Jeffrey Epstein and faced similar blowback. “But somehow they were able to weather the storm. Why is everyone else able to stand and you can’t?” Crockett said.
The two lawmakers have had a tense relationship for years, including a heated dispute during a House Oversight hearing. Even so, Crockett once appeared to extend a brief moment of sympathy when Trump pulled his support from Greene, posting on social media, “I told you not to trust him… he never loved you.”
Greene has not detailed what she plans to do after leaving Congress.
