A fugitive of the law in Texas who also served as a security guard for Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) was killed on Wednesday during a confrontation with a Dallas SWAT unit after he pulled a gun on them.

The individual, known publicly as Mike King, had been sought for posing as a law enforcement officer. He also has other aliases. According to CBS News Texas, he allegedly presented himself as one while recruiting clients for a company that connects off-duty police officers with secondary employment.

Officials said investigators with the Dallas Police Department’s fugitive unit located King late Wednesday. At about 11:40 pm, he barricaded himself inside a vehicle in a parking garage at Children’s Medical Center Dallas, authorities said during a Thursday morning briefing.

Police deployed tear gas to force him from the car. Once outside, he pointed a firearm at the officers, prompting them to open fire. The suspect was hit during the exchange and died at the scene. Authorities have not released his actual identity.

King had previously been part of Crockett’s security team in both Washington, DC and Texas, per the outlet. His work reportedly included accompanying the congresswoman to campaign events during her bid for the Democratic Senate nomination, which she ultimately lost to James Talarico.

Video published by the outlet shows the 44-year-old Democrat walking beside the tall bodyguard, who authorities say was secretly operating as a criminal figure while posing as a police officer.

Investigators say King operated a website called “Off Duty Police Services” and allegedly drove a replica undercover police vehicle that carried license plates stolen from a military recruiting office. Crockett had paid “Mike King” for “security services” as recently as last year, despite him having a criminal background.
