"Will Kamala and her campaign return his contributions? Or will they continue to insult half of the country for the sin of thinking Kamala Harris isn't good at her job?"
Republican vice presidential nominee Sen. JD Vance (R-OH) criticized Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris and her campaign Wednesday, asking whether they will return the contributions of an Indo-American venture capitalist who is “doubling down” on President Joe Biden’s characterization of Trump supporters as “garbage.”
Vinod Khosla, who is the co-founder of the massive tech company Sun Microsystems, posted on X that "Garbage is an understatement for MAGA extremists,” in response to remarks made by Biden Tuesday night on a Zoom call with Voto Latino.
In the conversation, Biden endorsed Harris’ bid for the presidency by castigating the appearance of comedian Tony Hinchcliffe at Sunday’s Trump rally at Madison Square Garden where the comedian referred to Puerto Rico as “a floating island of garbage” during his routine. “The only garbage I see floating out there are his supporters," Biden said on the call, referring to the other half of America that doesn’t support his presidency or Harris’ campaign.
Khosla is a multi-billionaire who supports the Harris campaign with his bank account. In June, he provided a $413,000 donation to the Harris Action Fund, a PAC supporting the Democratic presidential candidate, Fox News noted. He had previously given $100,000 to the PAC in June 2023 and made two other $3,300 donations to the Biden for President campaign, which Harris absorbed after Biden was pushed out of the presidential race.
Harris tried to bury the issue on Wednesday, claiming that Biden had "clarified his comments” and saying, "I strongly disagree with any criticism of people based on who they vote for."
In full damage control, Biden backtracked on his insult and said he wasn’t talking about all Trump supporters, only Hinchcliffe. "Earlier today I referred to the hateful rhetoric about Puerto Rico spewed by Trump's supporter at his Madison Square Garden rally as garbage—which is the only word I can think of to describe it. His demonization of Latinos is unconscionable. That's all I meant to say. The comments at that rally don't reflect who we are as a nation," Biden posted on X.
