The House of Represenatives took a definitive stand against the "horrors of socialism" on Friday even as socialists have been making inroads in local politics across the US. Socialists Zohran Mandani and Katie Wilson both won their mayoral races in New York City and Seattle, respectively, with Mamdani set to meet with President Trump on the same day the resolution passed.

Republicans pushed the resolution across the threshold, with 219 representatives voting in favor of the resolution to condemn socialism while 86 Democrats voted against the resolution. Reps. Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, Ayanna Pressley and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez all opposed the measure while Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi both backed it.

Jeffries endorsed Mamdani in his bid to win Gracie Mansion in New York City, but now claims to oppose socialism. He did not oppose socialism when it came to seeking power for the Democrat Party in New York City, though his support was in the waning days of the campaign.

"I deeply respect the will of the primary voters and the young people who have been inspired to participate in the electoral process," Jeffries said just a few weeks ago. "Zohran Mamdani has relentlessly focused on addressing the affordability crisis and explicitly committed to being a mayor for all New Yorkers."

Mamdani, a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, ran for mayor on a socialist platform. He has claimed that he's not a socialist because he's a Democratic Socialist and won the Democrat mayoral primary. Jeffries seemed hesitant to endorse him at first, but later got on board the Mamdani train.

The resolution on "denouncing the horrors of socialism" reads "That Congress denounces socialism in all its forms, and opposes the implementation of socialist policies in the United States." The text cites, communist and brutal dictators, famine, mass murder, the killing of over 100 million people globally, the crimes of socialist ideologues, the Bolshevik Revolution, Holodomore, and Mao's Great Leap Forward.

The resolution also cites the killing fields of Cambodia, the Castro regime in Cuba, socialism in Venezeula, and quotes America's founding fathers Thomas Jefferson and James Madison.

"To take from one, because it is thought that his own industry and that of his fathers has acquired too much, in order to spare to others, who, or whose fathers have not exercised equal industry and skill, is to violate arbitrarily the first principle of association, the guarantee to every one of a free exercise of his industry, and the fruits acquired by it," said Thomas Jefferson.

Madison wrote "is not a just government, nor is property secure under it, where the property which a man has in his personal safety and personal liberty, is violated by arbitrary seizures of one class of citizens for the service of the rest."

Jeffries endorsed Mamdani in October after appearing hesitant to do so for months. When a far-left primary challenger indicated that he'd been seeking to oust Jeffries from his Brooklyn seat, both Mamdani and Ocasio-Cortez said it wasn't time to boot Jeffries.
