Joe Biden’s younger brother Frank claims that his brother's health contributed to the president’s decision to drop out of the 2024 race.

According to CBS White House Correspondent Nancy Cordes, Frank Biden told the outlet "In my humble opinion absolutely" Joe Biden’s health contributed to his decision to bow out of the campaign. Frank Biden added that he is glad for “whatever time we have left.”

However, Cordes also reported that a source close to the Biden family said “Frank Biden suffers from alcoholism and hasn’t spoken to his brother in weeks. What he said...is completely untrue.”

Last week, Joe Biden tested positive for COVID, canceled his scheduled campaign events, and isolated himself with his family. Biden then dropped out of the presidential race on Sunday and endorsed Kamala Harris for president.

For weeks Democrats have encouraged Biden to leave the race in the weeks since his disastrous debate performance against Donald Trump on June 27.

Previously, Biden had resolved to continue the race despite the backlash against him from within his own party.

House Speaker Mike Johnson called for Biden to resign immediately following the announcement that he will not seek re-election in the 2024 presidential race. He posted on X, "If Joe Biden is not fit to run for President, he is not fit to serve as President. He must resign the office immediately."
