Mark Hamill has now deleted an AI-generated image showing President Donald Trump lying dead in front of a tombstone, drawing condemnation from the White House. The image, shared on Bluesky, depicted Trump with a headstone marked “1946–2024” and the caption “If Only.”

Hamill followed up with a clarification and apology of sorts, writing: “Accurate Edit for Clarity: ‘He should live long enough to… be held accountable for his… crimes.’ Actually, I was wishing him the opposite of dead, but apologize if you found the image inappropriate.”

The White House Rapid Response 47 account on X responded to the original post, saying, “.@MarkHamill is one sick individual. These Radical Left lunatics just can’t help themselves. This kind of rhetoric is exactly what has inspired three assassination attempts in two years against our President.”

Hamill, known almost exclusively for playing Luke Skywalker in the “Star Wars” franchise, has been a frequent critic of Trump and his administration. In a 2024 interview with The Times of London, he said political developments under Trump had left him deeply concerned. “The bullying, the incompetence, the people in place… The only way I can deal with it without going crazy and wanting to open my veins in a warm tub is to look at it like a thick, sprawling political novel. It’s entertaining in a way because this could actually be the end. Our status in the world has been crippled and that will reverberate for decades.”

This is a breaking news story.
