Following dueling visits to the Texas border on Thursday by 2024 GOP frontrunner Donald Trump and President Joe Biden, Miami Mayor Francis Suarez announced that he is endorsing Trump for president.

"After seeing both our current President and President Trump at the border, and having been there myself last week, it is evident to me that the only candidate that will keep our country safe, our border secured, reduce inflation and can coherently lead our country forward is President Donald J. Trump," Suarez wrote.

Suarez was a previous GOP primary candidate, but dropped out in August after failing to meet the requirements for the first debate. He was the first candidate to drop out.

"For those reasons, I am endorsing President Trump today."

He added that he looks forward to "helping him campaign on his strong record and contrast it with the current administration’s. I especially look forward to helping President Trump and the Republican Party win a larger share of Hispanic, young voters and voters across our cities and urban centers."

A poll published in January found that Trump leads Biden among Hispanic voters by 5 points, at 39 to 34 percent. Biden drew in 65 percent of the vote in the group in 2020, over double the 32 percent Trump received.

Trump also led in voters under the age of 35, with 37 percent of these voters supporting Trump compared to 33 percent supporting Biden.
