The Harris campaign is on track to give the fewest number of interviews in modern American history. Between Monday and when Vice President Kamala Harris became the Democratic candidate, neither Harris nor her running mate Tim Walz have sat down for more than five interviews with the press, per Breitbart

Harris has been criticized for avoiding the press since President Biden stunned the nation on July 21, when he announced his withdrawal from the race and endorsed her. The candidate's lack of transparency has brought into question what a potential Harris presidency would look like, leaving undecided voters uncertain about her bid for president.

To compare, the combined number of interviews and press conferences that the Trump-Vance ticket has participated in is more than 70 in the same timeframe, according to data first reported by Axios.

In the minimal establishment media interviews that Harris has given, the vice president has avoided providing specific details on policy matters and has dodged hard-pressing questions altogether or provided vague responses.

The Harris campaign's apparent strategy to hide from the press has been met with severe criticism, resulting in mainstream media presenters disparaging the Democratic nominee. For example, as Breitbart News reported, CNN's Stephen Collinson penned an article titled, "Harris isn't giving the specifics some undecided voters say they want." In the piece, Collinson slammed Harris for being "unable" to provide "a comprehensive blueprint for exactly what she would do as the 47th president."

Additionally, Politico writers have issued a collaborative piece that slammed the vice president for not “break[ing] much ground or stray[ing] far from her talking points during the near hour-long conversation” during her appearance at the National Association of Black Journalists. The writers said Harris stuck to "her script" and did not "stray far from her talking points during the hour-long conversation." They also added that Harris has not drawn any distance from Biden's administration.

Even in some high-profile interviews with friendly celebrities, such as Oprah, Harris seemed unable to answer questions completely.
