Kamala Harris claims Ron DeSantis, Greg Abbot are targeting American's rights

"We all know your right to vote and the action of voting unlocks all the other rights, including same-sex marriage," the vice president said.

Vice President Kamala Harris on Sunday shared her thoughts on Republican "extremism," citing abortion restrictions and claiming that Florida's Parental Rights in Education bill is keeping teachers from being able to "love openly."

In an interview with progressive YouTube channel host Brian Tyler Cohen, Harris was asked why the younger generations, who have been largely disenchanted with the Biden administration, should continue to vote in support of the Democratic Party. She claimed that basic rights are apparently on the chopping block.

"We all know your right to vote and the action of voting unlocks all the other rights, including same-sex marriage," the vice president said. "Including whether we are going to stand up against a law that says 'Don't Say Gay,' restricting kindergarten through third grade teachers to be able to love openly and teach what they believe is important for people to understand."

Harris was referring to Florida's Parental Rights in Education Bill, which Democrats have consistently misrepresented and propagandized. The legislation was signed into Florida law by Governor Ron DeSantis back in March and prohibits classroom non-age appropriate sexual orientation and gender identity for students in kindergarten through third grade. The law also requires public schools to report a shift in a student's "mental, emotional, or physical health or well-being" to their parents. The word "gay," which Democrats have said the bill opposes outright, is actually nowhere in the text of the bill.

Harris also slammed "so-called leaders" passing restrictions on abortion in the wake of the Supreme Court's overturn of Roe v. Wade. Without mentioning them by name, Harris went after Texas Governor Greg Abbott and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for their state's limits on abortion following the Court's ruling.

"We have governors from Florida to Texas and other states who are approaching this from an extremist position, that is definitely about attacking the rights of women to make decisions about their own body," she said. "These various states with these extremist, so-called leaders are passing laws that make it more difficult for a woman to have access to reproductive care and to abortion."

"Women are getting pregnant everyday in America, and this is a real issue," Harris said, a statement that has caused confusion for many on social media.
