Mia Bieniemy was taken to the hospital with serious injuries and remains in stable condition.
Police responded Sunday evening to a shooting in the 20000 block of Northpark Drive in Ashburn, Virginia. Mia Bieniemy was taken to the hospital with serious injuries and remains in stable condition, reports the Daily Mail.
Elijah Bieniemy was identified by police Monday morning as the suspect. He has been charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and discharge of a firearm inside a dwelling. He is being held without bond at Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.
Eric Bieniemy was away in Missouri with the Chiefs as the team began training camp at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph. He has since left the team to be with his wife.
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid addressed the situation Monday, saying: "Our hearts go out to Eric Bieniemy. Mia is stable. She's a saint, one of God's good blessings." Reid also said there is no timeline for Bieniemy's return to the team. Joe Bleymaier has stepped up from his role as pass game coordinator to work as the offensive coordinator during Bieniemy's absence.
Bieniemy and Mia have two son. Their oldest son, Eric III, is wheelchair bound and has cerebral palsy and respiratory issues. Those medical complications led Bieniemy to isolate from his family during the 2021 NFL season to help protect his son from COVID exposure.
The coach returned to Kansas City this offseason after spending three seasons away from the organization. Bieniemy previously worked with the Chiefs from 2013 to 2022 as running backs coach and offensive coordinator before leaving for other opportunities.
