Kansas State Rep. Mark Samsel (R) was arrested on Thursday after a physical altercation occurred with a student in class where he was working as a substitute teacher.
Samsel is now facing charges of misdemeanor battery after having been released on a $1000 bond.
According to the Kansas City Star, the teacher was not exactly popular with students, and many of them began recording and sharing videos of the teacher talking about controversial issues on Wednesday.
"He’s a foster kid. His alternatives in life were having no parents or foster care parents who are gay. How do you think I’m going to feel if he commits suicide? Awful."
"Who likes making babies? That feels good, doesn’t it? Procreate. ... You haven’t masturbated? Don’t answer that question....God already knows."
In another video, Samsel can be seen shockingly arguing with one of his students pacing around the classroom. Samsel follows and then grabs the student.
“What the hell is going on with the #KSLEG this session? [Rep. Samsel]shouldn’t just be terminated from substituting. He should be blocked from being around all kids," commented Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas upon hearing about this latest incident.
Lucas was alluding to a previous incident where an ex-State Senate Majority Leader Gene Suellentrop (R-Wichita) was caught driving drunk and going the wrong way down a highway, then trying to flee police. He has since resigned from his post.
Samsel later posted on Snapchat, "The kids and I planned ALL this to SEND A MESSAGE about art, mental health, teenage suicide, how we treat our educators and one another. To who? Parents. And grandparents. And all of Wellsville."
Samsel added, "I went to jail for battery. Does that really make me a criminal? Time will tell."
