Lara Trump has stepped down as chair of the Republican National Committee as speculation mounts that she could replace Marco Rubio in the Senate. "It is something I would seriously consider," she said to the AP. "If I’m being completely transparent, I don’t know exactly what that would look like. And I certainly want to get all of the information possible if that is something that’s real for me. But yeah, I would 100% consider it."

Trump, the daughter-in-law to President-elect Trump, mother of two and wife of Eric Trump, was co-chair of the RNC during the recent election after being elected to the post in March, and brought victory for the GOP in the White House, Senate, and House. "With that big win," she said, "I kind of feel like my time is up. What I intended to do has been done." Trump is also the host of a podcast on Rumble called The Right View.

During that time, and with Trump's campaign and win, she noted that "The whole party has totally shifted and totally changed. I think people are feeling a little more bold in coming out with their political views." She expects that unity to remain with the party, which under her tenure embraced election integrity measures and encouraged voters to vote early, a reversal of the RNC's position during the 2020 election. Michael Whatley, co-chair, intends to stay on to lead the RNC.

After Trump's win, he tapped Florida Senator Marco Rubio to serve as Secretary of State during his second term in office. To take that role, Rubio will have to leave the Senate and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis will appoint someone to serve the remainder of Rubio's term, which goes to 2026.

She has been on board with many of Trump's new initiatives, speaking in favor of the new Department of Governmental Efficiency, an advisory board led by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy to offer recommendations to purge government waste. "I really don’t think we’ve seen movement like this in our federal government since our country’s founding in many ways," she said. "And I think if they are successful in what they plan to do, I think it is going to be transformative to America in a great way."
