A spokesperson with the National Police Association slammed mainstream media over their obsession with the January 6 attack on the United States Capitol while ignoring the riots across the country since May of 2020.
On NTD’s The Nation Speaks, Sgt. Betsy Smith voiced that the media is currently focusing all of their time on the Capitol riot while failing to report on the violent riots perpetrated by Antifa over the past year.
"We’re focusing on one riot on January 6, and it’s very, extremely frustrating to law enforcement," said Smith, a 29-year veteran of a large Chicago Police Department.
"Right now, their current obsession is, you know, white supremacy, white supremacists, and the Capitol riot. They don’t want to talk about the other 99 percent of violent riots that American law enforcement has been dealing with for the past almost year," Smith said.
"When most Americans wake up and take a look at their phone, or their newspaper to get their news, they’re not going to see much Antifa activity unless they live in an area where Antifa is extremely prevalent," Smith said.
Smith’s comments come after the media’s failure to direct their focus on the violent rioting perpetrated by Black Lives Matter and Antifa activists across the country, which is still an ongoing problem.
Since the wake of George Floyd, far-left activists have instrumented violent clashes with the police where they have looted businesses, set private property on fire, stole an firearms out of police vehicles, attempted to burn down police precincts, all while assaulting law enforcement officers.
Most notably are the instances that happened in the Pacific Northwest, where activists laid siege to a Courthouse in Portland, and created their own 'country' called CHAZ in Seattle, WA.
Mainstream media didn’t cover the civil unrest instigated by far-left groups (which left thousands of officers injured) nearly as much as they have covered the riot at the Capitol on Jan. 6.
On Inauguration Day, Antifa and far-left activists rioted in the city’s of Seattle and Portland where they burned American flags, engaged in vandalism and property damage, and attacked a courthouse.
Sgt. Betsy Smith doesn’t understand why there was little to none media coverage on these riots. "Most people had no idea that had occurred because the media very much gives them a pass," Smith said.
On The Nation Speaks, Smith lamented that law enforcement officers across the country need better leadership while emphasizing officer’s need the proper protection and equipment to keep themselves safe during these violent riots.
"The equipment keep those officers safe while they’re trying to protect small businesses," she said. "And very often, like we saw in Minneapolis, minority-owned small businesses, they’re being destroyed, and that destroys people’s lives."
