A Vancouver-area man has been sentenced to ten years in prison for the shooting of a Metro Vancouver Transit Police officer in 2019, Global News reports.
Daon Glasgow, 35, was accused of shooting the officer at the Scott Road SkyTrain station in Surrey, a suburb of Vancouver. He was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for the shooting.
The victim of the shooting was Vancouver Transit Police Const. Josh Harms, who ultimately recovered from the encounter.
The shooting took place in late January of 2019, but Glasgow was not apprehended until the next month. The Surrey Mounties arrested him at a home in Burnaby on Feb 3. Three others were arrested during his capture, but they were released shortly afterwards.
Glasgow, a native of Halifax, was once a promising athlete who competed in the World Junior Olympics in 1998.
He had previously served time in prison for murder. In 2011, he pled guilty to manslaughter after killing a man in a McDonald's restaurant in Surrey the previous year.
He originally received a 10 year sentence, but his time was reduced to 8.5 years after he was given a time-and-a-half credit for the time he served in jail prior to his conviction. He received statutory release in 2018.
On top of his latest conviction, Glasgow was also sentenced to eight years for robbing a cannabis dispensary.
He is expected to serve over 15 years in jail under the string of recent convictions, prosecutors say.
