Maryland Gov. Wes Moore rules out terrorism in Baltimore bridge collapse, promises to build 'a more safe state'

Maryland Governor Wes Moore ruled out terrorism as a possible cause to the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse in Baltimore after a ship collided with the structure Tuesday morning. 

"The preliminary investigation points to an accident. We haven't seen any credible evidence of a terrorist attack," Moore told reporters in a press conference.   
 

"Our administration is working closely with leaders from all levels of government and society to respond to this crisis and not by just by addressing the immediate aftermath but also by building a state that is more resilient, and a state that's more safe," Moore added.  

"We will get through this because that is the Maryland spirit. And that's what Maryland is made of, because we are Maryland tough and we are Baltimore strong." 
 
The press conference comes after a ship named the Dali collided with the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, Maryland at around 1:30 am on Tuesday.   
 
It has been revealed by reports that the crew on board "lost control" as well as "propulsion" when it was in the harbor by the bridge as well, which may have led to the crash. Video of the crash shows power on the boat appearing to fail prior to the incident.   
 

 
Other officials reiterated that there appeared to be no ties to terrorist activity. FBI official over the Maryland office, Bill DelBagno stated, "There is no specific or credible information to suggest that they're ties to terrorism."  
 
The "Dali" cargo ship is owned by Grace Ocean Pte Ltd and managed by Synergy Marine Group. It was set to go to Sri Lanka. The company in charge of the charter of the ship, Maersk, halted all shipments in the nearby Red Sea channel in December 2023 due to incursions by the Houthis.
