Mass caravan of migrants heads to US border in anticipation of Democrats' open border policies

A caravan of 600 migrants from Honduras is heading toward the US border as the midterm elections approach, with odds going into the election favoring Democrats in Congress.

The caravan began in Honduras and has been building in numbers, and has reached southern Mexico, according to Newsweek. The caravan, known as "Fe y Esperanza," or "Faith and Hope," is headed toward the US-Mexico border. The group includes migrants from Honduras, Haiti, Ecuador, Guatemala, and El Salvador.

The caravan comes despite President Donald Trump's crackdown on illegal immigration, which stands to be loosened if the Democrats take control of Congress in the midterm elections. Border crossings have plummeted under the Trump administration to record lows, and DHS has said that the US has released no migrants into the country for 16 consecutive months.

The images coming out of the caravan swell are similar to those that made headlines during and ahead of the Biden administration. The Texas Public Policy Foundation reported in December 2020, just days ahead of Biden assuming office, that migrant caravans were forming in Honduras.

When Biden took office, one migrant in a caravan of around 7,000 said at the time, "New president, Biden, he gonna help all of us, he's given us 100 days to get to the US so we can get legal papers so we can get a better life for our kids and for our families." Some of those in the caravans even wore Biden campaign t-shirts. 

One caravan organizer said at the time, "When there is a change in government in the US or Mexico, caravans start to move, because they are testing the waters to see how authorities respond."

After reports of the new caravan surfaced online, the Department of Homeland Security responded with an edit of Philadelphia Eagles NFL player Brian Dawkins, saying, "Our time has come."

In a follow-up post, DHS posted another photo that said, "The border is closed."

Rep. Nancy Mace wrote in response to the caravan on X, "A procession of hundreds of migrants is moving through Mexico toward the U.S., just in time for a democrat Congress to let them in after the election. Right on time. SAVE THE REPUBLIC. VOTE RED IN NOVEMBER."
