"This guy has cognitive issues related to his age."
In the wake of special counsel Robert Hur's report on Thursday about President Joe Biden's mental state, medical professionals began calling for the president to take a mental acuity test to prove he is fit to serve.
Nursing home physician Dr. Stuart Fischer told the New York Post, "Something isn’t right, and even if it’s minor, it must be explained to the public."
"The horse is out of the barn," he added. "Not only does [Biden] have an infirmity of some degree, but he has delayed producing objective evidence."
Fisher told the outlet that while he is not Biden's doctor and he could not diagnose the president, he has "signs of symptoms" that indicate he might suffer from "infectious disease or fatigue." He added, “I don’t know how this man can have anything more than a mild schedule."
"The more he pushes himself, the more difficult it is for an 81-year-old body to respond," Dr. Fischer said.
Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-TX) served as a member of the White House Medical Unit under President George W. Bush, and as the physician to former Presidents Barack Obama and Donald Trump told the outlet that Biden "needs an actual cognitive battery of tests, objectively done, put on paper, and briefed to the American people by his physician.”
“I’m not making a diagnosis. And I’m not saying the guy has Alzheimer’s or multi-infarct dementia or Parkinson’s or anything else,” He added. "This guy has cognitive issues related to his age: He shuffles when he walks, he slurs his speech, he forgets where he’s at, what he’s doing, he can’t remember names, he can’t remember dates — that is not someone that should be in control of the nuclear codes in this country and controlling our fate overseas.”
The White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told a reporter that White House physician Kevin O'Conner told her that who he is as the President and everything he has to deal with "shows that the president is very much active and understands what’s going on and [O’Connor] didn’t believe a test like that was warranted."
President Biden hosted a press conference on Thursday after the Hur report recommended that he not be charged with mishandling classified documents because "Mr. Biden would likely present himself to a jury, as he did during our interview of him, as a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory."
During the press conference, the president made several errors, including mistaking the country of Egypt with Mexico.
