"You just got beat up little boy, shut up!"
The incident occurred on March 7 on a Niles School bus. Around 50 parents gathered on Wednesday to protest and voice their concerns regarding student safety and bullying at Ballard Elementary School, WSBT 22 reports. TJ Camp, the victim's father, spoke out about the incident during the demonstration and said: "On Monday afternoon, I was notified by my son's nanny of an incident on my son's school bus. The nanny told me that my son has been in some kind of altercation, and he had several bumps and bruises on his head."
Camp later saw video of the altercation circulating on social media and was outraged that the school never contacted him, explaining that he had to make first contact. Despite there being two adults on the bus, nothing was done to stop the attack.
"On Thursday night, I saw a video of my seven-year-old child being viciously beaten by an older and larger student. I was horrified by what I saw. The school district told me there were two adults on the bus. A driver in a monitor could be seen in the video. Nothing was done to stop the attack on my child," said Camp.
Other parents spoke out during the protest and claimed that this female student has been the school bus bully for quite some time but nothing has been done to stop the violent behavior.
The mother of the student sitting next to the boy on the bus said that her son suffered a black eye during the altercation.
"I fear every day that I put my son on the bus. I can't wait to get him off and hug him," said Brittany, the other student's mother. Another parent claimed that her daughter had been bullied so badly by the same girl that they had considered pressing criminal charges.
"We are getting tired of our kids getting bullied and it being overlooked," the parent said. "Parents have been complaining about Ballard Elementary School for years."
Former students of the school also attended the demonstration and spoke about their experiences with bullying at the school. One former student, Sage Wallace, said that the bullying resulted in one of her classmates taking their own life two weeks before graduation.
"I am now 27 and I graduated in the class of 2015," said Wallace. "I will never allow my children to go to Niles community schools because I cannot trust that my kids are going to come happy and safe and not harmed."
Niles Community Schools Superintendent Dr. Dan Applegate told WNDU that the female student is being reviewed by the district's code of conduct committee.
"Witnessing that and what happened on the bus is totally unacceptable," said Applegate.
TJ Camp said that he has pulled his children out of the school until Ballard Elementary School can ensure their safety.
Video footage shows a young boy, aged 7, being repeatedly punched by a much larger girl in the 5th grade while he was sitting in a seat on the bus. The boy's head was reportedly left bruised and bumped.
"You just got beat up little boy, shut up!" said the girl after the brutal pummeling.
The boy then reached in the girl's direction in what appeared to be self-defense, which resulted in further beatings. The girl accused him of trying to touch her phone, although it's unclear what is happening in the video.
"You mad because you got beat up!" the girl taunted.
The Niles Police Department said that the case will be reviewed by a prosecutor for potential charges, according to WNDU.
