Chris Ostroushko previously appeared on The Bulwark podcast, which describes itself as the “flagship podcast of the Never Trump movement and the reality-based community.”
The man identified as the attacker of TPUSA frontlines journalist Savanah Hernandez outside an ICE facility in Minneapolis appeared on The Bulwark podcast just months before the incident and was celebrated by the state's largest paper, the Star Tribune.
Hernandez was assaulted Saturday while reporting outside the Whipple ICE facility. Video from the scene shows multiple individuals striking her, including a bald man in a blue jacket who pushed her to the ground. The man was identified as Chris Ostroushko, who goes by “Minnesota Angry Man” on social media.
"I was just brutally assaulted by multiple people outside of the Whipple ICE facility in Minneapolis. Multiple people swung on me and a grown man pushed me to the ground. My glasses are broken. ANTIFA still alive and well. I’m talking with police about pressing charges," Hernandez wrote on X on Saturday.
Ostroushko previously appeared on The Bulwark podcast, which describes itself as the “flagship podcast of the Never Trump movement and the reality-based community.” The Bulwark was founded by conservative commentators associated with the Never Trump movement, including Bill Kristol and Sarah Longwell.
During his appearance, Ostroushko reacted to footage of himself being interviewed while protesting in north Minneapolis following a second ICE-related shooting in the city. In a video titled “EXCLUSIVE: Why a Regular Guy Snapped on Camera,” he discussed his views on immigration enforcement, claiming that ICE agents detain individuals and, in his words, “still beat the sh*t out of them.” He also angrily claimed that he knows people who have been detained for “driving home from work.”
“I’m just here trying to stand up for community,” he said. “We’re all human beings.”
Hernandez posted an image of the man in an aggressive stance as he shoved her to the ground, writing, “This is the man who just threw me to the ground outside of the Whipple ICE facility as I was walking out to leave. I had multiple women also swinging on me simply because they found out I worked for TPUSA. I wasn’t even interviewing people today.”Ostroushko reportedly pushed Hernandez after claiming she had touched his daughter, identified as Paige Ostroushko, who was also at the protest. Ostroushko attends the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, where she is a member of the women’s soccer team. She was detained by police in the aftermath of the incident.
In a post to X, Hernandez wrote that she was still feeling the effects from the attack: "I’ve truly never experienced such a violent man in my life. Didn’t even speak a word to him today and he was so angry and aggressive. I’m in pain because of how hard he pushed me."
In January, the Star Tribune ran an article calling him “a bald soccer dad” that had turned into an “unlikely activist.” The article goes into detail over a rant that he went on, which the paper describes as “profanity-laced.”
Protesters gathered outside the facility that day as part of a demonstration they called “F*ck ICE Day,” where they lined the perimeter of the fence with dildos.
