Utah Sen. Mitt Romney says he'll support Supreme Court nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson's confirmation, the third Republican to back President Joe Biden's pick.
"I intend to vote in support of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson's confirmation to be an associate justice of the U.S. Supreme Court," the senator tweeted Monday.
Romney said after reviewing Jackson's judiciary record and testimony, he has decided that she is "a well-qualified jurist and a person of honor."
"While I do not expect to agree with every decision she may make on the Court, I believe that she more than meets the standard of excellence and integrity," Romney wrote in a Monday press statement shared to social media.
"I congratulate Jackson on her expected confirmation and look forward to her continued service to our nation," Romney added in the signed statement.
The Senate Judiciary Committee voted Monday and was deadlocked at 11-11 on sending Jackson's nomination for a full Senate vote. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer made a formal move to discharge the nomination after the tied votes.
Jackson was grilled by GOP lawmakers, including Sen. Josh Hawley and Sen. Ted Cruz on the judge's history of sentencing below federal guidelines and government recommendations in child pornography cases, with some involving infant torture.
During testimony, Jackson has argued that the modern age of technology has ushered in advancements allowing computers to hold greater storage of files, meaning the standards have shifted in cases of possession of child pornography.
