"Upon reflection, we have determined that the article did not meet our standards and has therefore been removed from our platforms."
The first lady posted a screenshot of the apology, which read, "The Daily Beast recently published a story headlined 'Melania Trump "Very Involved" in Epstein Scandal: Author' based on an interview with Michael Wolff. Upon reflection, we have determined that the article did not meet our standards and has therefore been removed from our platforms."
"In response to a letter from the First Lady's attorneys, The Daily Beast has also removed a portion of an episode of The Daily Beast Podcast titled 'Trump's Epstein Scandal Can't Stop Won't Stop' referencing the First Lady. The First Lady points to her bestselling book Melania as the definitive account of her life story. We apologize to the First Lady and our readers," the outlet added in the apology.
The outlet had previously removed the article, but the podcast episode with the references to the first lady had remained available on YouTube. The article itself was pulled in July. At the time, the Daily Beast said in an editor's note, “After this story was published, The Beast received a letter from First Lady Melania Trump’s attorney challenging the headline and framing of the article."
The note added at the time, “After reviewing the matter, the Beast has taken down the article and apologizes for any confusion or misunderstanding.”
In the podcast, Wolff claimed that Melania had met Trump through ID Models founder Paolo Zampolli, who has alleged ties to Epstein. “She was very involved in this Epstein relationship,” Wolff said on the podcast. "I mean, there was this model thing … She’s introduced by a model agent, both of whom Trump and Epstein are involved with. She’s introduced to Trump that way. Epstein knows her well. Epstein says the first time Donald Trump and Melania have sex is on his airplane.”
