US Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro revealed on Thursday that the two West Virginia National Guard members who were shot in DC on Wednesday afternoon had been sworn in less than 24 hours prior to the shooting.

"Both Sarah and Andrew, I believe, were sworn in less than 24 hours before they were shot on the street in Washington," Pirro said in a Thursday morning press conference.

The two West Virginia Guardsmen shot have been identified as 24-year-old Andrew Wolfe and 20-year-old Sarah Beckstrom. Both were shot in the head, and 29-year-old Rahmanullah Lakanwal was taken into custody. He was brought to the US under the Biden administration through Operation Allies Welcome, which was launched in the wake of the administration's disastrous 2021 withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Rep. Riley Moore, who represents West Virginia in Congress, confirmed that Wolfe and Beckstrom had successfully made it through surgery and are with their families in the hospital. "I am grateful for the doctors, nurses, and first responders working around the clock to care for these two heroes. I ask that you join Mina and me in continuing to lift up our brave guardsmen and their families in prayer," Moore wrote.
