The group of migrants is reportedly mainly form Venezuela, but includes people from Uruguay, Colombia, and Mexico.

When asked by Fox News whether they believe that the border is closed or open, one migrant said, "it’s open, not closed."

"The border is open," he added, saying that most migrants believe the border is in fact open.

"It’s open because we enter, we come in, free, no problem," he continued, noting that he came across illegally.

Despite this migrant’s comments, government officials have stressed repeatedly that the border is in fact closed. But the numbers of illegal aliens crossing into the US continues its rise.

In June, Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said in a White House press conference that "the border is closed."

"We're focused on them, on the facts," Jean-Pierre said, "and holding the human smugglers who endangered vulnerable individuals for profits accountable. And we're focusing on continuing our historic actions to disrupt dangerous smuggling networks, including through new, anti-smuggling campaigns just in the first two months resulted in over 1,800 arrests. But the fact of the matter is the border is closed."

Though the administration has said that the border is closed, their actions more align with a border that is open.

When Biden took office in 2021, he reversed a number of Trump-era border policies, and announced plans for a more humanitarian approach to illegal immigration.

Biden claimed that he would "Take urgent action to undo Trump’s damage and reclaim America’s values; Modernize America’s immigration system; Welcome immigrants in our communities; Reassert America’s commitment to asylum-seekers and refugees; Tackle the root causes of irregular migration;" and "Implement effective border screening."

Speaking with Fox News, Marla Bustillos, a representative from a non-governmental organization Sanctuary DMV, said that the migrants would be going to a local church.

Bustillos said that the group had been "at Union Station since 6 in the morning waiting" and "just heard 20 minutes ago that the drop-off was this one."

"We’ve already set up a church and a location — a safe location for them to tell us where they need to go next, where they have relatives," she continued.

The arrival of these buses in DC follows hot on the heels of two planes arriving in Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts, carrying migrants that had been in Florida.

Migrants have been sent across the country from hard hit border states to cities and states with sanctuary policies.

Abbott has sent dozens of buses to major cities like New York City, Washington, DC, and Chicago in recent months.

According to Gov. DeSantis’ press team, the two planes sent on Wednesday were "part of the state’s relocation program to transport illegal immigrants to sanctuary destinations."

"States like Massachusetts, New York, and California will better facilitate the care of these individuals who they have invited into our country by incentivizing illegal immigration through their designation as 'sanctuary states' and support for the Biden Administration’s open border policies," DeSantis' press team added.

According to US Customs and Border Patrol data, nearly 2 million migrants have been encountered crossing the southern border in the 2022 fiscal year. In 2021, that number was 1,734,686.
