CEO of trans activist group Mermaids resigns after board member ousted over pedophile advocacy

Green's resignation comes as Mermaids has been under mass public scrutiny for pushing gender ideology on children, and attempting to silence those they disagree with. On their website, Mermaids boasts of "supporting transgender, nonbinary and gender-diverse children, young people, and their families since 1995."

Included in the "support" of "gender-diverse children" are attempts to shut down gay rights groups, speaking at events hosted by pedophiles, and giving dangerous medically inaccurate advice to gender-confused minors. Earlier this month, Mermaids was accused of homophobia for trying to strip gay rights charity LGB Alliance of its charitable status.

Karon Monaghan KC, representing LGB Alliance, said that Mermaids' case relied upon "insinuation" and "conspiracy, suggesting that they were deliberately deceiving the Charity Commission about the purpose of their organization, reported The Telegraph.

Monaghan also pointed out that throughout the hearing, Mermaids had suggested that language such as sex-based rights, sexual orientation, and words such as gay, lesbian, and bisexual were "used to signal [a] position against trans rights."

LGB Alliance, founded in 2019 and awarded charity status in 2021, maintain that their group "exists to provide support, advice, information and community to men and women who are same-sex attracted." The founders have spoken out about the harm they believe gender identity ideology is doing to the gay, lesbian, and bisexual community – namely, erasing them through transition and remaking them as straight members of the opposite sex.

In another controversy during Green's tenure as an executive officer, a board member resigned after it was revealed that he gave a disturbing speech at an event hosted by the group B4U-ACT, which was founded by convicted child molester Michael Melsheimer. They describe themselves in its mission statement as seeking "to publicly promote professional services and resources for self-identified individuals … who are sexually attracted to children and desire such assistance" and to "educate the public regarding issues faced by individuals … who are sexually attracted to children."

It was revealed in part of the discovery during a hearing that Mermaids brought against the LGB Alliance that Dr. Jacob Breslow, a speaker at a 2011 B4U-ACT event, was a board member of the transgender charity.

In his speech, Breslow compared sexually assaulting a child to masturbating on a shoe.

"Just as the desire to and the act of cumming on a shoe requires a rethinking of the shoe… I want to now argue that the desire to and the act of cumming on or possibly with a child requires a rethinking of both the child and of the person for whom the child is a sexual fantasy or partner," were his exact words.

He resigned last month after backlash.

In yet another troubling controversy, an investigation by The Telegraph revealed that a Mermaids worker offered to send a breast binder in discreet packaging to an undercover investigator who was posing as a 14-year-old girl after the investigator had explicitly stated that her mother would not allow her to use one.

According to The Telegraph, the organization had been running a free "binder scheme" since at least 2019, sending the chest-compression devices to troubled girls who were uncomfortable with their developing breasts.

Green herself has also been at the center of controversy for transitioning her son to appear as a girl at a young age, which she bragged about in a TED Talk.

In 2009, Green took her biological male child, Jackie, to Thailand for sex-reassignment surgery as a 16th birthday present. When discussing the child's penile inversion with friends, she joked about how "there wasn’t much there to work with" because Jackie had been on puberty blockers from a very young age and hadn’t developed sufficiently. She had obtained the puberty blockers online from a doctor in the US because at the time they were unavailable in the UK.

In the announcement of her farewell from the charity, Mermaids kept it short.

Chair of Trustees Belinda Bell said "The Trustees are very grateful to Susie for everything she has done over the last six years to support trans, non-binary and gender-diverse young people and their families, and to build Mermaids into the organisation it is today. We wish her all the best for the future."

According to the announcement, an interim CEO will be appointed "shortly."
