Virginia mother sues school district after secret gender transition led to daughter being kidnapped and sex-trafficked

The mother of 14-year-old Sage Blair, Michele, initiated a lawsuit against the Appomattox County School Board and district staff.

"They stole my right to protect my daughter," Michele Blair said upon speaking with the Washington Examiner. "I'm the parent, I am an expert on my child, there is nobody in the school or court system that knows my daughter better than me. They will never know my daughter better than I do."

According to Blair, as Sage was being mercilessly bullied at the school, the district intentionally hid the fact that her daughter's personal identification as a boy was part of the picture.

"It was verbal, physical, sexually harassed with constant threats of rape by the male classmates," Blair said of Sage's 2021 freshman year at Appomattox County High School. "Despite this, the school encouraged her to use the boys' bathroom."

Sage had a laundry list of mental health issues up to and including tendencies of self-harm, all of which Blair says was shared with the school—all while it said nothing about her daughter's perceived gender identity.

Blair's lawsuit argues that she as a parent was "deprived" of her ability to "exercise her fundamental parental rights to direct the upbringing of her daughter, including making educational and mental health decisions."

Vernadette Broyles, an attorney for Blair provided by the Child & Parent Rights Campaign, explained that after-school officials pushed Sage to "use the boys' bathroom, even though they knew she was being threatened with sexual assault."

Sage "perceived herself that she wasn't safe and she runs away from home," Broyles explained. "She runs into the arms of a waiting pedophile, who encounters her, rapes her, traffics her with two other men, and takes her across state lines into Washington, D.C., and then ultimately into Maryland."

The Appomattox County School Board and district staff are not the only ones named in the suit. Joining them is Baltimore, Maryland area public defender Aneesa Khan, who became involved with Sage after she had been unwillingly taken to Maryland. Khan was said to have conducted a "series of acts aimed at depriving Mrs. Blair of custody of her daughter and keeping [Sage] in Maryland to be affirmed in a male identity."

Upon learning about Sage's situation, Klan concluded the Blair family was not "sufficiently affirming" of her identity as a boy. This led to Sage being stuck in a juvenile facility for adolescent males, "where she was again sexually assaulted, exposed to drugs, and denied medical and mental health care," according to the lawsuit.

"This is a 100-pound girl, what do you think happens in this facility?" Broyles exclaimed.

Khan is notably a fellow of The Youth Justice Leadership Institute, an organization that openly pushes left-wing agendas, especially surrounding groups of people it considers to be oppressed by society on the basis of skin color, gender, sexuality, etc. Khan's own biography on the institute's website affirms this; she begins her history by simply writing (she/her) pronouns and notes that she focuses on "reducing racial and ethnic disparities in the juvenile legal system" as well as helping "dismantle systems of oppression."

Sage Blair has been diagnosed with complex PTSD and is currently undergoing intense therapy after trauma stemming from the incidents.
