Two 11-year-olds are recovering at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh after a pit bull mix escaped its owner's yard and mauled them on Monday in Hopewell Township, Pennsylvania.
One of the victim's fathers, Eric Fisher told CBS News that his daughter Ariana, and her friend, Owen, "somehow encountered the dog and the dog attacked my daughter." He said, "Her leg looks like someone took a knife and just slashed, fillet out the leg. It's Horrendous."

"They are up here at Children's Hospital because of that dog," he said. "Very traumatic. Everybody is crying in that room. It is such a terrible thing."
Fisher told the outlet that his daughter said, "She was out and the dog came after her." He said that Owen tried to help by distracting the dog, but the dog turned on him. He said the boy "Went over and tried to push him, push him away, the dog just went after him, bit both of his arms."
"I want it destroyed, and the neighbors need to be accountable," Fisher concluded. According to police, the dog was put down on Tuesday.
Christian Fischer, Ariana's brother, told WTAE he knows most of the dogs in the neighborhood, but "Sarge, the dog who bit Ariana, it was a new dog. I didn’t know him very well.”
The dog was registered to a couple in the neighborhood and was up to date on all his shots. The owners said they adopted "Sarge" about two months ago and they were not made aware of any aggression issues before adopting him. They declined to comment any more on the incident.
Police have not released any details on the incident, and have not said if they will cite the owners.
According to Dog Bite Law, Pennsylvania state law makes owners of dogs who attack responsible for paying a victim's medical bills. However, they are only fully liable if they are proven to be negligent or knew their dog was dangerous.
