‘A sad day in America’: Trump slams Colorado Supreme Court for election interference in pulling him from 2024 ballot

"What a shame for our country," Trump posted on Truth Social on Wednesday morning, later adding, "a sad day in America."

"Biden should drop all of these fake political indictments against me, both criminal & civil. Every case I am fighting is the work of the DOJ & White House. No such thing has ever happened in our country before. Banana republic??? Election interference!!!"

Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung criticized the decision on Tuesday evening, saying in a statement, "Unsurprisingly, the all-Democrat appointed Colorado Supreme Court has ruled against President Trump, supporting a Soros-funded, left-wing group’s scheme to interfere in an election on behalf of Crooked Joe Biden by removing President Trump’s name from the ballot and eliminating the rights of Colorado voters to vote for the candidate of their choice."

"Democrat Party leaders are in a state of paranoia over the growing, dominant lead President Trump has amassed in the polls. They have lost faith in the failed Biden presidency and are now doing everything they can to stop the American voters from throwing them out of office next November," he continued.

"The Colorado Supreme Court issued a completely flawed decision tonight and we will swiftly file an appeal to the United States Supreme Court and a concurrent request for a stay of this deeply undemocratic decision," Cheung said. "We have full confidence that the U.S. Supreme Court will quickly rule in our favor and finally put an end to these unAmerican lawsuits.”

The Colorado Supreme Court stated in an advance sheet headnote on the matter that "President Trump is disqualified from holding the office of President under Section Three of the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution," and that since "he is disqualified, it would be a wrongful act under the Election Code for the Colorado Secretary of State to list him as a candidate on the presidential primary ballot."

It goes on to note that the court will stay its ruling until Jan. 4, 2024, "subject to any further appellate proceedings."

The Trump team is expected to file an appeal with the US Supreme Court.

The four judges who voted to ban Trump from the ballot are Monica M. Márquez, Melissa Hart, William W. Hood III and Richard L. Gabriel, and were appointed by former Gov. and now Senator John Hickenlooper.

The Colorado Republican Party has vowed to pull from the primary election and host a caucus instead.

"We will withdraw from the Primary as a Party and convert to a pure caucus system if this is allowed to stand."
