The Biden campaign has developed a nickname for Donald Trump, taking a page from the former president's playbook as the race to November's Presidential Election heats up. However, political strategists warned that it's not a smart move for the Biden campaign and every political opponent of Trump who has tried to mimic his strategy has failed.
The nickname that the Biden-Harris campaign came up for Trump is "Broke Don," which was used in a recent campaign email sent to supporters on Thursday.
"Not a Winning Campaign: Broke Don Hides in Basement," the email said. "Trump can't raise money, isn't campaigning, and is letting convicts and conspiracy theorists run his campaign."

View on XThe nickname was coined after the Democratic candidate's campaign revealed a significant financial advantage over both Trump and the Republican National Committee (RNC).
As per a report submitted to the Federal Election Commission on Wednesday, the Biden campaign had $71 million in cash at the end of February. When combined with the funds from the Democratic National Committee, the amount increases to $97.5 million, as reported by POLITICO. Biden currently has twice as much as the combined funds of the RNC and the Trump campaign, which is reported to have $44.8 million in cash.
Trump has made famous nicknames for nearly all of his political opponents, both Democrats and Republicans. Among the most notable are "Sleepy Joe," "Crooked Hillary," and "Ron Desanctimonious." A talking point from Trump's 2020 reelection campaign, in which the former president frequently criticized Biden for leading a "basement campaign," was also replicated in Biden's campaign email.
One Democrat strategist told The Hill that copying Trump is not a good strategy, saying "Mimicking Trump has been done before and has never really worked."
"You can't out-Trump Trump because he's the original version. I would say they need to be more creative in producing their own original and unique strategy to bring him down a peg that shocks and awes," said the strategist.
The Biden campaign ridiculed Trump's financial situation as the former president faces escalating legal fees from his numerous civil and criminal cases. Trump also faces an additional $454 million judgment in the New York civil business fraud trial against him.
