John Sullivan, founder of Utah based BLM extremist group Insurgence USA told Fox News on Thursday, "There’s this narrative going around right now that Antifa was the people there causing the riots, causing the tension, they were the only people breaking into the Capitol, and I wanted to be able to tell a part of history and show that that was anything but the case."
Insurgence USA describes itself as "the revolution." Insurgence USA group’s website promoted an event called "Kick These Fascists out of DC" on Wednesday around to combat the pro Trump rally near the National Mall.
Thursday night, a day after the riot at the Capitol, Sullivan was detained by police on K and 14th in Washington, DC by the Hamilton hotel.

Sullivan told Fox News he regularly "attends protests to record what’s going on, including a clash involving Proud Boys on Tuesday near D.C.’s Black Lives Matter Plaza."
"It’s just recording, solely, and not being active in it," he claimed, although he admitted climbing into the Capitol through a broken window.
Sullivan tweeted several videos taken inside the Capitol on Wednesday. One contained an up-close view of the fatal shooting of Ashli Babbitt, an Air Force veteran who was shot by a law enforcement officer while trying to breach the Capitol. "I remember looking into her eyes and seeing the lifelessness and understanding that she was dead," he said.
"Protesters weren’t really, like, trying to burn anything down, they weren’t really trying to break anything, their main motive was to make it into the chambers," Sullivan told KUTV .
Sullivan, 25, has a history of violence and was arrested & charged in July 2020, where drivers in Provo, Utah, were threatened and one was shot during a BLM/Antifa riot.

During the course of the protest, two handguns were brandished and two shots fired toward a motorist traveling to Home Depot. Vehicles were damaged by protestors as well as by John Sullivan," a police affidavit states.
Sullivan was also captured on video threatening to beat a woman in an SUV, and then kicking her door, leaving a dent, according to the affidavit,
As reported by the Deseret News, "Sullivan was seen with Jesse Taggart, the man charged with shooting the motorist, Jesse Keller Taggart, 33, of Salt Lake City, throughout the protest. Taggart was charged with attempted aggravated murder, a first-degree felony, aggravated assault and discharge of a firearm causing injuring, both second-degree felonies, and rioting, a third-degree felony."
"As a protest organizer, John Sullivan is heard talking about seeing the shooting (of a 60 year old motorist), looking at the gun and seeing smoke coming from it. John did not condemn the attempted murder nor attempt to stop it nor aide in its investigation by police."
After the Trump rally, a mob of demonstrators stormed the Capitol, ransacked congressional offices, and even made it to the Senate floor, prompting condemnations from across the political spectrum and left five dead including a Capitol police officer.
The riot interrupted a joint session of Congress convened to count and certify the Electoral College results of the presidential election. Congress reconvened later in the evening and finished the process of certifying Joe Biden as president-elect.
DC police and the acting US attorney for the District of Columbia, Michael Sherwin, announced a array of charges in connection with the chaos Thursday, including weapons possession, assault, and theft.
