BREAKING: Bryan Kohberger charged with 4 counts of first degree murder in Idaho slayings

Chief of Moscow Police James Fry said, "Last night, in conjunction with Pennsylvania State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, detectives arrested 28-year-old Bryan Christopher Kohberger in Albrightsville, Pennsylvania, on a warrant for murder Ethan, Xana, Madison, and Kaylee."

"Kohberger resides in Pullman, Washington and is a graduate student at Washington State University. We'll provide as much information as we can about the extradition to Idaho and the criminal process. However, due to Idaho State law, we are limited in what information we can release today," Fry added.

Fry said that the police had received 19,000 tips and conducted over 300 interviews in narrowing down their suspect. The bodies of 20-year-old Xana Kernodle, her boyfriend 20-year-old Ethan Chapin, along with 21-year-old Madison Mogen and 21-year-old Kaylee Goncalves were found stabbed to death early in the morning of November 13 after police responded to a report of an unconscious person at a rented home on King Road in Moscow, Idaho.

"To recap this case. On the evening of November 12, Kaylee and Madison arrived home at about 1:56 am after visiting a local bar and street food vendor, Ethan and Xana were at the Sigma Kai house before arriving home around 1:45 am. The two surviving roommates had also been in the community but returned around 1 am," Fry said.

"On the morning of November 13, a 911 call was made at 11:50 am reporting an unconscious person at the residence. The call came in from inside the home from one of the surviving roommates' cell phones," Fry said. "Moscow police responded and found two victims on the second floor and two victims on the third floor."

Fry explained that on November 17 the autopsies were performed, the victims were identified, and the cause of death was confirmed as a homicide.

"The cause and manner of death was homicide by stabbing. Some had defensive wounds and each had been stabbed multiple times. These murders have shaken our community and no arrest will ever bring back these young students," Fry added. "However, we do believe justice will be found through the criminal process."

"The nature of the work is not done," Fry said.

Latah County Prosecutor Bill Thompson spoke after Fry and said that Kohberger was charged with four counts of first-degree murder "In addition to felony burglary which involves entering the residence with the intent to commit the crime of murder."

Thompson said he was limited in what he could share but said, "As for Mr. Kohberger, I can share with you that he is a graduate student at Washington State University and has an apartment of residents over at Pullman."

Thompson said that the proceedings to get Kohberger extradited from Pennsylvania to Idaho have been initiated.

The President of the University of Idaho also gave a statement and said, "Our students come first, and that was proven each and everyday of this investigation."

During questions, Fry said, "We are still looking for all pieces of evidence. But we are still looking for the weapon, and I will say we have found an Elantra."

In a statement to CNN, law enforcement sources said that Kohberger's DNA was found at the scene of the crime, and the white Hyundai Elantra that was being sought in connection to the crime was found outside his home.

While police led the public to believe they had no suspects, they were tracking him using his car, the outlet reported. An FBI surveillance team reportedly watched him for four days while Idaho State Police and Moscow Police worked on an arrest warrant for first-degree murder, reported the Daily Mail

He is currently being held at Monroe County Correctional Facility in Pennsylvania awaiting extradition to Idaho.
