View on XIn the days leading up to Biden’s announcement, reports surfaced that both Schumer and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi had been expressing concerns about Biden’s viability as a candidate. Schumer reportedly had a private meeting with Biden last week, during which he presented polling data showing Biden's challenging odds against former President Donald Trump. Biden is currently trailing the GOP nominee in all the major swing states.
Schumer also expressed concerns to the president that a potential loss to Trump could have significant down-ballot consequences which could cost the Democratic Party their current Senate majority.
Following Biden’s announcement, Schumer posted on X, commending Biden's decision and leadership.
