BREAKING: Elon Musk calls suppression of ‘What is a Woman?’ film ‘a mistake by many people at Twitter’

Following reports from the Daily Wire that the Twitter premiere deal of Matt Walsh’s documentary What is a Woman was canceled by the social media giant over "two instances of 'misgendering,'" Twitter owner Elon Musk has stated that this was a "mistake by many people at Twitter."

"It is definitely allowed," Musk added. "Whether or not you agree with using someone’s preferred pronouns, not doing so is at most rude and certainly breaks no laws."

Musk stated that he uses other people’s preferred pronouns and names "simply from the standpoint of good manners," but added that "however, for the same reason, I object to rude behavior, ostracism or threats of violence if the wrong pronoun or name is used."

Musk was responding to a thread by Daily Wire CEO Jeremy Boreing, stating on Thursday morning, "Twitter canceled a deal with [the Daily Wire] to premiere What is a Woman? for free on the platform because of two instances of 'misgendering.'"

Twitter was set to host a special event for the film, where The Daily Wire set up a special events page to air and promote the film. After the agreement was signed, Twitter asked if they could view the film "to better understand what parts may 'trigger' users, so they could better prepare their response." Boreing said.

Twitter decided, after viewing the film, that they would limit the reach of the film instead of amplifying it as originally agreed to. They used two instances of misgendering in the film to support their decision.

In one scene a father refers to his trans-identified child as "her", and a store owner used "he/him" pronouns when referring to a trans woman after the trans woman confronted him about a sign in his store.

Twitter claimed that this was part of their "speech not reach" policy according to Boreing. "I hope @elonmusk will reconsider this awful policy. If we can't debate these issues on Twitter, where can we debate them? If conservatives aren't welcome on Twitter, where are they welcome? It’s unlikely another centibillionaire will come along to offer an alternative," he concluded.

"We will still stream the movie here tonight in its entirety at 8 ET. Twitter has the next 12 hours to decide whether they want to be a true free speech platform or not," he said with a clip from the movie attached.

Twitter has also reportedly labeled a clip from Matt Walsh's 'What Is A Woman' documentary a violation of its hateful conduct policy and limited its reach on the platform after previously deciding to break a deal to air the film.

"For anyone who doubted: Twitter has now labeled a clip from our film hateful conduct and disabled retweets," the Daily Wire host posted on Twitter Thursday afternoon. "The trans activists are still in charge. @elonmusk needs to step in immediately."
