Former Vice President Mike Pence is reportedly set to announce his bid for the US 2024 presidential election in Des Moines, Iowa as early as next week, NBC News reports.
Pence, the former Republican governor of Indiana and Trump White House vice president, will be going head-to-head against his former boss Donald Trump, battling it out on the campaign trail with the hopes of winning the GOP presidential primary.

"We view this race as absolutely wide open, and Iowa is really going to solidify itself as the pivotal player," the person familiar with Pence's campaign told NBC News. "It's a place that values Mike Pence's principles — traditional conservative principles — deep-rooted faith and uncommon character."
According to the source, Pence will focus on hosting town hall-style events in Iowa where he can have more intimate discussions with battleground voters.
"What better place to do your announcement than a place that's going to be so pivotal in the future of the nation," the source told the network. "It certainly conveys the importance that we're placing on the state."
Pence, who has distanced himself from former President Donald Trump since leaving the White House in 2021, will have to face Republican voters about his role in certifying the 2020 presidential election despite the former president directing him not to.
During the Jan. 6 riot at the US Capitol in Washington, DC, angry voters called for the "hanging" of Mike Pence after he certified the election that protesters claimed to be "fraudulent."
Mike Pence will be campaigning on conservative policies similar to those of the Reagan era, focusing on fiscal responsibility, robust military spending, fewer regulations and abortion, the network reports.
The Republican primary will be an ardent battle between proven track-record leaders that include former President Donald Trump, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley, and now Mike Pence, who previously served as Indiana's governor for four years.
However, the GOP contenders have a long battle ahead as a new poll has found that former President Donald Trump has a commanding lead over his fellow Republican candidates.
The poll, conducted by Rasmussen, found that 62 percent of Republicans would vote for Trump if the Republican presidential primaries were held today.
