BREAKING: Republicans demand answers on FBI involvement in Trump special counsel investigation into seized Mar-a-Lago docs
Jordan demanded to know whether any of the FBI employees assigned to work on the investigation had previously been involved in matters concerning Trump.
On Thursday, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan penned a letter to Merrick Garland demanding that the Attorney General reveal the extent to which the Federal Bureau of Investigation was involved in Special Counsel Jack Smith's investigation into former president Donald Trump. Smith was tapped by Garland in 2022 to dig into "whether any person or entity violated the law in connection with efforts to interfere with the lawful transfer of power following the 2020 presidential election or the certification of the Electoral College vote."
Jordan's letter comes on the heels of a report conducted by Special Counsel John Durham which exposed the weaponization of the FBI and shone light on the department's failure to "uphold their mission of strict fidelity to the law."

"Public trust in the FBI is low," Jordan wrote, citing numerous findings from Durham's report. "It is clear that Congress must consider legislative reforms to the FBI ... in the interim, however, due to the FBI’s documented political bias, the Justice Department must ensure any ongoing investigations are not poisoned by this same politicization."
He called on Garland to provide information regarding the use of FBI personnel by Smith, including the total number of FBI employees assigned to work on the investigation, as well as how many were operating out of headquarters and the Washington Field Office.
Jordan also demanded to know whether any of the FBI employees assigned to work on the investigation had previously been involved in matters concerning Trump, and whether Smith relied on any information gathered "exclusively by the FBI" prior to his appointment to Special Counsel.
The Ohio senator went on to slam the FBI over its "political bias," claiming that the "so-called 'corrective measures'" the department instituted in the wake of the Durham Report "have done nothing to address, let alone cure, the institutional rot that pervades the FBI."
